It was a long hot summer in L.A. but towards the end my family and I got away to Detroit for a few days to visit family and friends. The Yaxteq studio also needed some serious electrical repairs so production was on hold. As a result of all this, it’s been quiet around here. But there’s now plenty of news to report so here we go!!
First off, I’ve made the digital download of Yaxteq 002 “Gentefication EP” available on the Yaxteq shop. There’s plenty of details, a video preview and the option to buy at https://yaxteq.com/shop or go directly to the item listing here: https://yaxteq.com/product/yaxteq-002-gentefication-ep/
Next up, I’ll be making a guest appearance on Santiago Salazar’s “Santuario” Internet radio show on Dublab this coming Monday November 7th, 2016. Check out the show listing here: http://dublab.com/events/43542/santiago-salazar-santuario/
My Dublab appearance will be a nice preview of my performance at the Strawberry Fields Festival in Australia (November 17th-20th). Myself and DJ Skurge will be performing as the Underground Resistance Assault Squad. The full line-up is available here: http://www.strawberry-fields.com.au/music/
As a bonus, we’ll be kicking things off with a pre-party on Friday November 11th in Melbourne before heading out to the ‘bush’ for the festival. Check out the flyer below. Thanks for your time and reading this far into the post!! ; )
Check out dublab.com for an interview I did with Juan Atkins back in January of 2000! Big thanks to www.dublab.com for retrieving this recording from their archives.
“Listening back to this interview 13 years later, I can hear in my own voice how hard I’m trying to keep my cool and not gush over the fact that I’m meeting “Magic” Juan Atkins, the Godfather of Detroit Techno, the Originator! My favorite part is his description of driving in the dark to find his own sound. It’s actually one of the statements that stuck with me over the years. If you’re not searching for the unknown within the realm of what is supposed to be experimental music, then what is the real point? Thanks Juan!
This interview was recorded months before the first Detroit Electronic Music Festival, a full 2 years before I would move to Detroit and join Underground Resistance and nearly 9 years before I would be the opening DJ for Juan at a gig in London in November 2008. As for the DJ set, it’s got what you should expect; Kraftwerk, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Juan’s own productions, a Carl Craig remix, Robert Hood, some UK Techno and cut-up disco house tracks. It’s a multi-dimensional, diverse dancefloor set. I wish I had the complete tracklisting!
These days Juan is actively touring as Model 500 live with Underground Resistance members Mad Mike Banks, DJ Skurge and Mark Taylor forming his band. An intense show that covers early Cybotron, the Metroplex catalog and brand new tunes recently released on R&S Records. For booking Juan Atkins please contact firstname.lastname@example.org” – Dan “Dex” Caballero aka Nomadico (Original dublab DJ & Underground Resistance member)
